This is a clerical position involving performing clerical functions for three city commissions. Commissions meet once a month on Monday or Tuesday night starting at 7:00pm. Position is part time and approximately 15-20 hours per month. Possibility role could expand to more responsibilities with other commissions. Employees in this classification perform work using considerable independence within established policies and procedures.

DUTIES

  • Prepares for commission meeting
  • Uses the word processor to create meeting agendas, working from rough drafts, general instructions or established procedures; may also compose agenda independently
  • Take or transcribe oral dictation from monthly commission meeting
  • Sorts copies and files material in predetermined order and obtains necessary information and material from files as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

A high school diploma or equivalent with courses in typing and business, and 12 months of clerical work experience, or any equivalent experience and training to provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of modern office principles and practices
  • Knowledge of business correspondence methods, English and grammar and alternative applications and arithmetic
  • Proficiency with: computers for word processing and spreadsheet applications, 10 key calculator, photocopier, facsimile machine and typewriter
  • Ability to type accurately at 50 w.p.m. on computer
  • Ability to search files with little information to collect and assemble data
  • Ability to communicate in nontechnical terms procedures, ordinances and policies to the general public
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, citizens, and appointed and elected officials

The employee in this classification will be required to frequently list objects of up to 10 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to life/move objects of up to 25 pounds in weight. Vision requirements for this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The employee performs job duties within a climate controlled office environment, with a moderate noise level.
