The City of Ypsilanti is seeking a part-time Parking Enforcement Officer!

GENERAL SUMMARY

This position involves the enforcement of parking regulations on the City right-of-way, parking systems and the collection and depositing of parking fees. Working independent of regular supervision, the individual has discretion in selecting enforcement areas and timetables.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Enforces the parking ordinances of the City

- Collects meter revenues, counts, separates, and deposits cash collections

- Checks meters for proper operating condition

- Tags and coordinates the removal of abandoned vehicles

- Assists citizens in unlocking vehicles

- Takes pictures and forwards them to the Ordinance Enforcement Officer when property owners are in violation of trash, snow, litter removal, etc.

- Performs the duties of school crossing guard

- Serves as a witness for the City to defend action in court

- Completes corresponding reports to include daily activity, impound reports

- Sets a rotating schedule to reduce predictability on routes

- Responsible for the safe operation of assigned vehicles

- Prepares and distributes to the DPW meter repair orders

-Performs related work as assigned by supervisor within the general knowledge, skills, and abilities set forth

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

A high school diploma with 90 days experience as a general code enforcement officer or any combination of experience and training to read and write legibly to communicate with supervisors, coworkers and the public on job task completion, or any combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

- Possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver's License

- Knowledge of bank depository regulation

- Knowledge of city street systems, public parking areas and meter operations

- Ability to talk legibly to use a portable radio

- Ability to walk for up to five miles daily

- Ability to transcribe information legibly and correctly

- Ability to operate a coin counter/separator

- Ability to operate a 12-key calculator

- Ability to communicate tasks to citizens

- Ability to work alone developing self-initiative for job tasks

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the public

The employee in this classification will be required to lift objects of up to 10 pounds on an extensive basis. Frequently, the employee will be required to lift objects of up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The employee in this classification is exposed to normal weather climates but can take cover during periods of adverse weather such as rain, snow and extreme cold.
